Fire Prevention ::
The North Penn Volunteer Fire Company looks forward to Fire Prevention Week every year. During that time the fire company goes around to the local schools and organizations so that we can teach the children fire prevention by how to prevent fires and also what they should do in case of a fire at their homes. We also let them meet a firefighter in full gear, up close, so that they can see how safe and friendly we are, and not scary.

The one most important thing you can have in your house in case of a fire is a smoke detector. The battery in a smoke detector must be in at all times. Also every once in a while you should test your detector to make sure it works properly. And remember when daylight savings time comes around, you need to change the battery when you change your clocks.

Another important part of fire prevention is to have a plan for your family to escape the house in case of a fire. This is important for children as well as adults. You need to set up a plan on how to get out of the house and set up an area outside in a safe area for your family to meet. This meeting point can be the corner of your yard, your mail box, or even a neighbor's house. Once out of the house, it is very important that you do not go back inside for anything. Not for a pet, toys or even a family member. If someone is missing, please notify the fire department when we arrive and when someone calls 9-1-1. It is very important that someone calls 9-1-1 immediately.
During Fire Prevention Week and throughout the year we allow tours of the firehouse. This allows the public to get up close to the equipment we use and the firefighters that do the job. It allows everyone to understand what the tool is and how it is used. And every future fighter gets to sit in the big red trucks that we use everyday. We take great pride in fire prevention because we know how important it is in saving lives.

To set up a time and date to have us visit your school or day care during Fire Prevention Week or to set up a time to visit our station, contact North Penn Volunteer Fire Company at (215) 699-4337. Or contact the Fire Prevention Officer, Lt Traynor at (215) 290-2162.
The most important thing to remember is, in any emergency, call 9-1-1
