Mutual Aid Training

Sunday, March 3, 2013  This past Tuesday evening, North Penn was invited to station 80 for a group training held by them. Upper Gwynedd Fire Department went over forcible entry using a door prop they purchased. Using a halligan and ax, as well as what is referred to a rabbit tool, members of both 62 and 80 had plenty of hands on with the door. Along with the door prop, there was also a window prop, made by members of station 80. Using the window prop, members were able to practice bailing out, removal of a patient and entering a window off a ladder.

Thank you to Upper Gwynedd Fire Department for inviting us

Fire in the Borough

Sunday, January 27, 2013   This past Friday a call came in for flames from the side of a residence in North Wales. The initial dispatched called for Station 62, Squad 80, Ladder 18 and Squad 14 as well as QRS 62 and an ambulance from 345. Deputy Chief 62 arrived on scene with a working fire and went into 62 Command. Crews went into service with inch and three quarter lines and began an interior attack on the fire. 62 Command monitored the progression of the fire and pulled the crews out to switch to a defensive attack. The fire was knocked down and operations went back into interior operations to hit hot spots and to perform salvage and overhaul. There was no reported injuries.

Additional companies on the call were Rescue 18, Engine 76, Ladder 83 (FAST Team), Rescue 345

Special thanks to companies 33 and 7 for being our stand by companies, covering our calls during the fire.

NPVFC - North Pole Volunteer Fire Company

Monday, December 17, 2012   What's going on with the gear racks at North Penn Volunteer Fire Company? Several of the racks have holiday lights, ornaments and other holiday season decorations. The reasoning for all this is a little competition that ends tonight. The members of North Penn have until tonight to decorate their lockers to enter the competition thought up by Chief Chris Park to put the members into the holiday spirit. Wednesday night the three judges selected by Chief Chris Park will be deciding the winner of best decorated and a special judges award.

So check back later in the week to find out who the winners are.

Don't forget that this Saturday, Santa will be going around with North Penn's fire trucks visiting the children of the community. Keep an eye out for Santa Claus.

Happy Holidays

Santa Came to North Penn

Monday, December 3, 2012  Santa may live at the North Pole, but yesterday evening he spent some time wishes a Happy Holidays here at North Penn. Santa wasn't lost on his way to check on his elves, he was here for the annual Tree Lighting. North Penn had a packed house full of community members waiting to meet the jolly guy. Inside the bays were holiday crafts and refreshments. When it was time for Santa to arrive, everyone gathered around the tree by the firehouse's brand new flag pole and freshly placed memorial stones. A holiday story was read, the tree was lit, and then came Santa down the street riding on Bertha. Santa stayed until he met everyone, parents and children alike told the big guy from the North Pole what they would like this holiday. The time came for Santa to head back North, but don't worry, Saturday, December 22nd, he'll be back. On the 22nd you will see Santa up on Ladder 62, driving through North Wales and Lower Gwynedd handing out candy canes, greeting the neighborhood and waiting to hear from those who made the Good List this year.

So if you didn't get to see Santa last night at North Penn, keep your eyes open December 22nd because he's coming to town.

Hurricane Sandy Threat Over

Wednesday, October 31, 2012   Hurricane Sandy has passed and North Penn Volunteer Fire Company handled more than 70 calls from Monday and Tuesday. Crews were in station during the storm to staff Squad, Engine and Ladder 62 as well as the Chief and Deputy's vehicle and at times when needed, one of the Traffic vehicles. Calls ranged from smells of something burning, trees into houses and/or wires, CO detectors going off, fire alarms, medical calls and much more.

In station, 345 had an ambulance to assist with their call volume. Also, in station, North Penn had the pleasure of having Chaplain Tom Byron cooking for them. Tom Byron is a life member of North Penn. He made sure that the first responders had plenty of warm meals and fresh coffee to keep their spirits up while they handled the calls.

Many areas are still without power, including several of the men and women of North Penn. They will continue to handle the calls as they come in. There is still much clean up to do.

Thank you to everyone for their time and dedication during the storm and during the preparation leading up to Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy

Monday, October 29, 2012  It's just before 2 am on Monday, and the crews of North Penn are sleeping in the bunk room, in the Engine Bay and anywhere else they can find a place to put their feet up. The crews are awaiting the first call that Hurricane Sandy will bring them. Much preperation and planning has gone into the next few days, and the men and women of The NuT HoUSe are ready for what's to come.

While the roads and weather are bad, please be safe. We can't be sure what will happen the next few days, but with the predicted heavy rains and wind, down wires and trees along with dangerous flooding can be expected.

Though we will be feeling the effects of Hurricane Sandy shortly, she will not be over our region until around 8 am Tuesday morning.
